Step 1: Back Up Your Website Data #
Before initiating the transfer, create a complete backup of your website files and databases to prevent any data loss.
Method 1: Using hPanel Backup Tool #
- Log in to your hPanel Dashboard at ozspeed.com.au.
- Go to Files > Backups.
- Click “Create New Backup” and wait for the process to complete.
- Download the backup file to your local computer.
Method 2: Manual Backup via File Manager #
- Open File Manager in hPanel.
- Compress the public_html folder and download it.
- Use phpMyAdmin to export your database as an .sql file.
Step 2: Contact OzSpeed Support #
To transfer your hosting plan to a different server, you need to inform OzSpeed Support and request the server migration.
- Go to the Support Center in hPanel.
- Click on “Submit a Ticket”.
- Select Technical Support and provide the following details:
- Your account email and domain name.
- The reason for the server transfer (e.g., upgrading server, changing server location).
- Any specific requirements (e.g., server type, location preferences).
- Submit the ticket and wait for confirmation from the support team.
Step 3: Prepare for Migration #
While waiting for the transfer to be initiated, update any configuration files and make necessary preparations.
- Update wp-config.php (for WordPress sites):
- Ensure your database connection details are correct for the new server.
- Update any hard-coded paths or URLs.
- Check .htaccess Rules:
- Review your .htaccess file for any custom rules that may need to be adjusted based on the new server environment.
Step 4: Transfer Your Domain (If Needed) #
If your domain is managed outside of OzSpeed, update the DNS settings to point to the new server’s IP address.
- Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).
- Go to DNS Settings and update the A record to the new server’s IP address.
- Allow up to 48 hours for DNS propagation.
Tip: #
- If your domain is registered with OzSpeed, the support team can assist you with the DNS update during the transfer process.
Step 5: Test Your Website on the New Server #
Once the migration is complete, verify that your website is functioning correctly on the new server.
- Open your website in a web browser and check all pages.
- Test interactive elements like forms, login pages, and media files to ensure they work properly.
- Use tools like Pingdom or GTmetrix to check the site speed and performance.
Step 6: Cancel or Downgrade the Old Hosting Plan (Optional) #
If you no longer need the old server, consider downgrading or canceling your previous hosting plan to avoid additional charges.
- Go to My Services in hPanel.
- Select the old hosting plan and click “Manage”.
- Choose “Cancel Plan” or “Downgrade Plan” based on your preference.
Tip: #
- Make sure all data has been successfully migrated before canceling the old plan.
Additional Tips: #
- Minimize Downtime: Schedule the transfer during low-traffic hours to reduce the impact on your visitors.
- Check Email Settings: If you use custom email services, update the MX records to reflect the new server settings.
- Monitor Performance: Keep an eye on your website’s performance metrics after the transfer to ensure everything runs smoothly.
